Papal Bull. Print, Politics and Propaganda in Renaissance Rome
Meserve, Margaret

This book analyses the early use of the printing press in papal political communication, decades before the protestant reformation. In doing so, it explores a huge archive of incunabula and challenges many conventional narratives of the media history of late medieval warfare.

Justinian’s Balkan Wars. Campaigning, Diplomacy and Development in Illyricum, Thrace and the Northern World. A.D. 527–65
Sarantis, Alexander

In this book, Sarantis examines the historical and archaeological context of the developments in the Balkan provinces of the Byzantine Empire during the reign of Justinian I. (527–‍565) in a comprehensive and detailed manner. In doing so, he aims to demonstrate that the Balkans were in no way politically or strategically subordinate, as the written sources may suggest.
